Ph.D. student Hampus Månefjord has upgraded the detector and light sources of BIOSPACE to the short-wave infrared wavelength range. In this range, we are investigating the spectroscopy features to determine if we can distinguish gravid from non-gravid female mosquitoes, as well as differentiate between mosquitoes of varying ages or sexes. This involves examining degrees of melanization, water path length, scattering path length, and polarization.
